Wedding & Engagement Photography at U of T in Downtown Toronto

Wedding photography at the University of Toronto’s St. George campus offers one of the most architecturally rich settings in the city — and remains one of my most requested locations for couples planning a Toronto wedding. With European-inspired stonework, Gothic facades, cathedral ceilings, cloistered corridors, and expansive courtyards, U of T delivers scale and intimacy within a compact downtown footprint.

The campus is vast, and each college requires its own photography permit, but there truly isn’t a weak location. From Philosopher’s Walk to the ornate façades surrounding King’s College Circle, to the stone-framed windows at Hart House, the architecture provides strong compositional structure and directional natural light throughout the day.

My common recommendation is Knox College. It combines soaring Gothic ceilings, enormous windows pouring light across marble staircases, and an exterior courtyard framed by detailed stonework. One of its most valuable advantages is the covered corridor running along the courtyard — allowing you to remain sheltered during rain while still photographing in natural light outdoors. Few locations offer that balance of epic interior scale and weather-protected exterior options in one permit zone. For a full example of how these spaces photograph across a complete wedding day, you can explore Iris & Mark’s Toronto Wedding Highlights, including their University of Toronto portrait session.

For full wedding party portraits, booking early is essential, especially in peak season. Weekend permit slots are first-come, first-served and time-restricted. I’m always happy to help my clients map out a preliminary schedule before securing permits, factoring in downtown traffic and parking so the session runs smoothly with appropriate buffer.

For engagement sessions, Sundays, holidays, or weekday evenings near sunset provide the most privacy and least foot traffic.

Pro tip: University alumni may qualify for discounted photography permits — often as much as 50% off for Hart House and Trinity College permits, with reduced rates at other St. George campus locations.
